Admission Requirements

  • BS in Physics
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00
  • Acceptable General GRE scores (Subject GRE is strongly recommended.)
  • Acceptable TOEFL score (international students only)

Applicants with a BS degree in related fields and with physics course work through the junior year may be accepted provisionally. For students entering the doctoral program with previous graduate work, the 48 credits of course work may be reduced by a maximum of 30 credits, subject to review by the program director or admissions committee. Interested PhD applicants should submit a completed George Mason University Graduate Application; three letters of recommendation, preferably from former professors; official reports of GRE and TOEFL scores; and a goals statement reflecting their research interests and career plans.The ETS code for GMU is 5827.

Application Deadlines:

  • February 1: Deadline for international applicants wanted to be considered for Graduate Assistantships
  • February 15: Deadline for domestic applicants wanted to be considered for Graduate Assistantships
  • April 15: Deadline for all applicants
