Ernie's Trip to Guatemala

August, 1993

After Tikal we flew to Belize. We visited the Cayes (Caulker and Ambergris) and snorkeled (pictures coming!). We then worked our way south; our first stop was Placencia. The plane (a 4 seater) landed to let us out, then went to fly away again, and we had to stop the pilot to ask where the town was! He pointed out a path through the woods and said to follow it for a few miles. Here is a picture of where the plane let us off:

Eventually we did find the town, and the beach:

We spent the afternoon at Placencia, then continued south to Punta Gorda. This is a place with no particular tourist attraction. We then took a boat to Livingston, which is a nice city in Guatemala on the Rio Dulce. We visited the Siete Altares (picture coming!). We then went up the Rio Dulce; along the way the boat stopped at a nature preserve where we met Pancho the spider monkey:

The trip continues...
